La María

La Maria is a singer who fuses music with traditional Valencian roots and electronic textures.

The irruption of La Maria meant a revolution in traditional Valencian singing. She debuted in 2023 with L’Assumpció (The Assumption), a release that took her to more than seventy stages and several television programs (for example, TVE’s La Revuelta). In her latest work, Robina (2025), she has built a proposal marked by her hypnotic voice. Divided into three parts -the breakup, the emptiness and the falling in love (with oneself)- the album launches a message that can be applied to love or any other life process. But, without a doubt, the artist breaks with all clichés and joins the new batch of musicians who assume tradition as the best tool for innovation.

According to the Valencian Academy of the Language, Valencian is a Romance language spoken in the Valencian Community, as well as in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, the French department of the Eastern Pyrenees, the Principality of Andorra, the eastern strip of Aragon and the Sardinian city of Alghero, places where it is called Catalan. The Statute of Autonomy establishes that Valencian is the language of the territory and that it is official together with Spanish. It also rules that special protection and respect will be granted to the recovery of the Valencian language. The relationship between Valencian and Spanish is mostly diglossic: while the first language is usually used in informal functions, the second predominates in formal functions.
